Following some comments and questions of
Congressman Tom Petri
(R-WI), before the House Education and Labor Committee
on 5/20, particularly on proposed HR1313,
Education Secretary Arne Duncan responded,
"I'm a huge fan of Troops to Teachers. I think it's a
phenomenal pool of talent. As you said, many men from
the minority community - great leaders by definition who
are just phenomenal role models."

"I teach because each of the three careers that I've
done in my life, Military, Firefighting, and Teaching, all
gave me the sense of helping others. I've saved lives in the
Fire Service and in the Military, but nothing compares to
bringing a kid to life with teaching, finding in them
something that they are good at doing. Teaching Gives
me that and the satisfaction of knowing that I have helped
them for a lifetime." Dan previously
taught technology at Naylor Middle School.Dan also involves his students in Arizona’s
BattleBots competition through the North American Robotics
League Educational Experience
